Privacy Policy for Lens

Last updated: September 5, 2026

Lens is a Chrome extension that helps users understand selected webpage content through summaries, simplified explanations, and relevant sources.

1. Information Lens processes

When a user selects text and uses Lens, Lens may process:

  • The webpage text selected by the user
  • Limited surrounding webpage text to provide context
  • The requested action, such as Summarize or Simplify

Lens does not intentionally collect passwords, payment information, authentication credentials, browsing history, contacts, or precise location.

2. How information is used

Selected text and limited surrounding context are used only to provide the functionality requested by the user, including generating summaries, simplified explanations, and finding relevant sources.

Lens does not use this information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or unrelated purposes.

3. Third-party services

Lens uses third-party service providers to provide its functionality:

Vercel — hosts the Lens backend that processes requests.

Google Gemini — processes selected text and optional surrounding context to generate summaries and simplified explanations.

Brave Search — may receive a shortened search query derived from selected text and surrounding context to identify a relevant source.

Wikipedia/Wikimedia — may receive a shortened search query when used as a fallback for source discovery.

These providers may process technical or service-related information according to their respective privacy policies and data-handling practices.

4. Data storage and retention

Lens does not maintain a database or intentionally persist selected webpage text, surrounding context, generated responses, or search results.

Content is processed transiently to fulfill the user's request.

Infrastructure and third-party services used by Lens may independently process or retain technical metadata or service logs according to their respective policies.

5. Analytics and tracking

Lens does not currently use product analytics, advertising trackers, cookies, user accounts, behavioral tracking, or device fingerprinting.

6. Data sharing and sale

Lens does not sell user data.

Information is transmitted to service providers only as necessary to provide the requested Lens functionality.

Lens does not share user data for advertising or behavioral profiling.

7. Website access

Lens is designed to work across webpages so users can select and understand content while browsing.

Lens processes selected text and limited surrounding context when the user interacts with Lens. Lens does not intentionally maintain a history of webpages visited.

8. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if Lens functionality or data-handling practices change. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
